Ten Green Modular Shelving: shelving and tables using glass bottles

green_modular_shelving.jpgTen Green is a modular shelving system, constructed simply from local recyclates.

This prototype was built with the Coach House Trust in Glasgow, using bottles from their recycling centre, and wood from the maintenance of their own sites. You can use any found timber, and adapt the dimensions to suit the wood you are working with.

Groovy *Beaded* Pom Pom Curtain!

curtain01.jpg
What's more kitschy than a beaded curtain?  How about one made with Pom Poms!

I strung black yarn with pom poms of various sizes and spaced them out.  I was going to string them tightly together, but I liked the bubbly look this gave it. . .and my fingers hurt from stringing pom poms.

curtain02.jpg
i laid the strings out on the floor and hot glued them to big fat popsicle sticks to make the curtain "rod."  then i tucked the whole shebang up into the workings of my stupid vertical blinds.  I think it's much improved, don't you?

i used some jersey loops laced together to make the curtain tie-back.  neato!

glass food storage - the clear choice : The Alternative Consumer

I love using my Pyrex flea market finds for storing foodstuffs in the fridge.  Aside from the eco upsides, I derive the added benefit of not having plastic of any sort — baggies or containers, touching, and possibly leaching into my food.  (Plastic # 7 can leach Bisphenol A — BPA, a hormone disrupter.)  Lidded glass containers such as those pictured below are especially good for salads, fruits and veggies.

A great way to be kind to your body, planet and wallet — search your mom’s upper shelves of her kitchen cupboards for reusable glass containers, or seek them out at tag sales, flea markets, e-bay or etsy.

Turn Your Old CDs Into a Funky Disco Ball

These days, there's really no reason to have CDs lying around since we get our music fix on Napster and Pandora, and download our music over at iTunes. And now even with Amazon's music service. Thankfully for Mother Earth, this reduces our need for less than eco friendly packaging and waste to pile up in landfills

CD Christmas Ornament Craft

CD Christmas Ornaments

Recycle your old CD's and make beautiful Christmas decorations.

What you will need: Old CDs, pretty ribbon or lace, drill, pictures from old Christmas card, and beads

What to do for star ornament:CD Christmas Ornament
1.
Place two CDs back to back so that the shinny sides face out.  Tape them together so that they don't move around while drilling holes.
2. Print out the star pattern and cut it out.  Place it on top of the CDs and mark with a  permanent marker where the holes should be drilled.
3. Drill the holes big enough so that your lace or ribbon will fit through twice.
4. Starting at the top of the star, lace the ribbon in and out all the way around the star twice so that you have a star.  Tie the ribbon at the top and add beads if you would like.
5. To finish, glue a picture from a Christmas card or family picture in the center.

What to do for Ray Ornament:
1. Glue two CDs together so that the printed sides are together.  Keep wrapping ribbon around and through the middle hole of the CD's until you get back to where you started from.  Tie the two ends together and add some beads to the top.

create your own customized and compact 2008 calendar

There's no rule that says you need to send out cards at Christmas, in fact many people disregard this tradition all together, waiting until the January lull to send out cards. Delay your delivery and give yourself the chance to focus on other holiday chores and possibly even handwrite your cards
